Once a senior adult can no longer shop or prepare a meal does not mean that they need to be placed in a care facility.  Homebound, frail elderly consumers in the LifeSpan service area are eligible for Home Delivered Meals.  These nutritional meals are provided by the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging.  They are delivered right to a consumers home by a trained driver for the noontime meal. These drivers, in many cases, may be the only contact that an older person has.  If you have special dietary requirements, no problem, LifeSpan can provide a Modified Meal to meet those dietary needs. All we need is a prescription from your doctor stating these special needs. LifeSpan also offers a Frozen Home Delivered Meals Program.   Seven meals would be delivered to the home one day a week.   Criteria for this program is that you must have the space to keep meals frozen and a means of heating the meals; either in a microwave or a conventional oven.  This is a great way to get a nutritional meal without the work.   Call 412-464-1300 for the areas served.  A donation, determined by each individual kitchen for both the hot and frozen meals, is  recommended, but is not mandatory.  For more details, call 412-464-1300 - Ext. 107.
