Home Delivered Meals
Home Delivered Meals is a state and federally funded program that provides healthy meals as well as face-to-face health and safety monitoring checks to 2,500 participating adults in Allegheny County.
Adults that are sixty (60) years of age or older, a resident of Allegheny County and unable to shop or prepare their own meals.
A suggested donation is requested from participants to help pay for the packing and delivery of the meals to the home. Contributions are encouraged and used to supplement the program needs.
Type of Meal Delivered:
A nutritious hot meal that meets one-third of the older adult’s daily food requirements
Special Diets - Not a Problem:
Diabetic/calorie controlled, low salt, fat controlled or a combination of any of these diets listed can be accommodated. A prescription from your physician is required. In recognition of the multiple needs of the "whole" person, the MOW program is committed to service, provision and coordination within the broad realm of nutrition, health-related and home care services.
LifeSpan has a staff of dependable MOW drivers who will deliver your meal right to your home. Volunteers help cut the cost of the MOW program and are always welcome to assist in packaging meals at our kitchens in Clairton, Homestead, Imperial and Knoxville. Meals are delivered Monday, Wednesday and Friday (except on holidays) between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm. Service lasts as long as needed - a day, a week, months. You must be at home to receive delivery of your meals.
Starting Meal Service:
You must first call the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging Senior Line to determine your eligibility and get your meals started 412-350-5460 or 412-350-4234 (after hours, weekends and holidays). This is your single point of entry. Be prepared to complete a short assessment over the phone.
